Three still missing

Sambalpur:
Special Relief Commissioner Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra on Monday informed that
with the recovery of 18 more bodies from the Hirakud dam, the death toll in the
Sunday’s boat capsizing incident mounted to 29.
Sources
said three persons are still missing and the toll could go up to 31 if their
bodies are recovered.
Several
rescue and search teams like Scuba diving, NDRF and local people are
engaged in the rescue operation.
Meanwhile,
two senior State Ministers like revenue and disaster management minister Surya
Narayan Patro and Finance Minister Prasanna Acharya reached the spot to take
stock of the rescue operation.
Parliamentary
Affairs Minister Kalpataru Das on Monday informed the Assembly that the Chief
Minister has ordered a RDC level inquiry into the mishap and announced Rs 1.50
lakh compensation to the kin of each of the deceased. Besides, the Government
will bear all the medical expenditures of the injured.
Congress
vice-president Rahul Gandhi who is on a 2-day Odisha trip too visited the
accident site at the Hirakud reservoir today and talked to the local people.
