26 1st phase LS candidates are crorepatis in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: According to the findings of
an analysis of the affidavits of candidate conducted by Association of
Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Odisha Election Watch (OEW), 26 out of the 98 candidates in
the fray for the upcoming first phase Lok Sabha elections are crorepatis.

The
analysis revealed that out of 97 candidates analysed, 26 are crorepatis of
which eight candidates have more than Rs 5 crores worth of assets.
BJD
nominee for Kandhamal Lok Sabha constituency Hemandra Chandra Singh, ranks
number one with total assets more than Rs 50,39,07,437 followed by 9,63,50,411
of Harihar Karan of INC contesting for Kandhamal Lok Sabha seat and Rs
8,79,55,818 of BJD nominee for Balangir Lok Sabha seat Kalikesh Narayan Singh
Deo.
Seventeen
candidates have declared assets of less than Rs 2 lakhs. The three candidates
with lowest assets are Balaram Hota of CPI (ML) from Kalahandi
constituency with Rs 1,150 followed by Lawrencia Lakra of IND from Sundargarh
constituency (Rs 1,500) and Prakash Hikaka of CPI (ML) RedSstar from Koraput
constituency (Rs 2,500), the report said.
One
Ashok Mital of AITC from contesting from Bargarh Assembly constituency has
declared that he has zero assets. 
A
total of 15 candidates have declared liabilities of above Rs 10 lakhs. While Kalikesh
Singhdeo from Balangir LS seat topped the list with liabilities worth Rs 2.44
crores, Dhananda Kanta Mishra of AAP from Berhampur constituency (Rs 56.62
lakhs) and Hemendra Chandra Singh of BJD from Kandhamal constituency (Rs 47.86
lakhs) respectively.
Eleven
candidates have declared total annual income of over 10 lakhs. Amarnath Pradhan
of INC from Sambalpur constituency has declared the highest total income of Rs
44.33 lakhs followed by Balabhadra Majhi of BJD from Nabarangpur constituency
with Rs 19.89 lakhs and Kalikesh with Rs 18.85 lakhs of total income, the
report added.
The
report further stated that eight out of 10 candidates fielded from INC, 7 out
of 10 candidates from BJD, four out of 10 candidates of BJP, one out of eight
candidates of AAP, one out of 10 of BSP have declared assests worth more than
Rs 1 crore in their affidavits.
Among
parties, the average asset for 10 INC candidate is Rs 3.28 crore, Rs 1.72 crore
for 10 BJP candidates, Rs 8.32 crore for 10 BJD candidate, Rs 20.34 lakh for
eight AAP candidates, Rs 39,13 lakh for 10 BSP candidates. 
The
report stated that the average asset per candidate contesting in the first
phase lok Sabha polls is Rs 1.62 crore.
