Around Rs 1000Cr liquor revenue collected during poll time in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Distribution of liquor to
the party cadres to imbibe their spirit and energy for campaign and
to the common people to buy vote by major political parties
during election time is very common in the State. But the range of
consumption of liquor is so high during the last general election which is
unimaginable by any sensible person in the State.
From the information provided by the Excise Department while complying
with a RTI application filed by rights activist Pradip Pradhan, it was found
that production and sale of liquor and its consumption has
increased manifold during January to May 2014.
The Government has received a total of Rs 988.8 crore (excise) revenue
between January and May this year.
While according to the RTI report the production of country spirit for
the period from January to May 2014 is 1271 trucks, (One truck =1000 cases=
5000 BL), production of out-stilled liquor for the same period from is 1,16,30,865
LPL.
However, the Excise department has not provided information about sale
and revenue collection data of previous years.
