BJB (Auto) College cancels students’ union polls

Bhubaneswar, Sep 18: The BJB Autonomous College authorities here on Thursday
suspended the electoral process for student union election at the college a day
after a group of students of the premier institute went on the rampage damaging
furniture in the Principal’s office.
The staff council meeting which was convened under the chairmanship
of college principal Mohammed Nawaz Hasan Principal, today passed a resolution
on suspending the election process in the college, sources said.
Notably, one of the first instances of violence ahead of
college elections, a group of students of the prominent institute went on the
rampage damaging furniture in the Principal’s office. Even, miscreants hurled
bombs in the college campus in night forcing the college authorities to cancel the
election process. 
According to sources the agitating students were protesting
the college authority’s indifference to their repeated complaints about
outsiders entering the campus. The students resorted to the violent act after a
third year student and former college president Mahesh Prasad was beaten up by
some outsiders on the college premises. Security measures have been intensified
to tackle the unforeseen situation in the college.
