Commercial agri-enterprises on rise in Odisha ARD sector

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: A
total of 137 dairy farms were established by inducting 3,419 cross bred cows in
the dairy sector in Odisha with a project cost of Rs 1,816.16 lakh between
2008-09 and 2015-16 through APICOL.
The farms were
established as per the State Agriculture Policy by the Fisheries and Animal
Resources Development Department, said department Secretary Bishnupada Sethi.
During the same period,
614 commercial broiler units were established with a total bird capacity of
35,38,150 and a project cost of Rs 11,241.66 lakh.
Similarly, 16
commercial layer units were established with induction of 4,95,709 birds
involving a total project cost of Rs 2249.30 lakh. As many as 51 small ruminant
units involving sheep and goats were set up with induction of 8,457 animals
involving a total project cost of Rs 492.05 lakh.
Capital Investment
subsidy of Rs 478.59 lakh, Rs 2,320.78 lakh, Rs 310.35 lakh and Rs 122.84 lakh
were disbursed to the 818 beneficiaries for establishment of dairy, broiler,
layer, and sheep/ goat units respectively. With this the Animal Resource
Development Department have generated employment for 4,330 people.
