BJD MLAs seek crores in sting op: CM orders Vigilance probe

Bhubaneswar, Aug 30: A day after a sting operation exposed three
BJD MLAs allegedly demanding money for helping industrialists, party supremo
and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday ordered Vigilance probe into the
entire incident.
The sting operation conducted by a private investigating
agency was aired by private TV channel ‘Kanak News’ on Monday.
In the footage of the operation, the four legislators Simarani
Nayak (Hindol), Bijay Naik (Karanjia), Sushant Behera (Chhendipada) and Anam
Naik (Bhawanipatna), were seen demanding money from men posing them as industrialists.
“I have ordered a Vigilance probe into the entire incident. Let us wait for the outcome of the report,” said CM when asked by media persons today.
While MLA Simarani Nayak is seen asking for Rs 40 crore from
a man posing as an industrialist to help in getting no-objection certificate in
setting up a textile project, Bijay Naik is seen asking for Rs 5 crore to help
set up a power plant project.
The Chhendipada MLA is seen seeking Rs 9-10 crore in the
lieu of his help in setting up a power project to be located in his assembly
constituency.
Anam Naik is seen explaining to a man how Vedanta’s alumina
refinery failed to take off because of the company’s failure to negotiate
properly.
