No electricity in 1,047 high schools in Odisha

Sep 22: School and Mass Education Minister Debi Prasad Mishra on Thursday informed
the Assembly that a whopping number of 1,047 high schools in the State have no
electricity connections as yet.
The Minister
in response to a written question of BJP MLA Rabinarayan Nayak on Thursday told
the House that generators have been provided to these schools for the purpose.
In a related
question of BJP MLA Dilip Ray, the Minister stated that the State has 4,626
Government and 3,246 aided high schools now.
While a
total of 12,71,918 students are studying in these schools, 3,557 Government
schools have sanctioned Headmaster posts and, of them, 1365 post are lying
vacant. Similarly, the Government high schools have a total of 38, 245 teacher
posts in Science, Arts, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, Telgu and PET subjects and of
these, only 20,496 regular teachers are working and 508 regular posts are lying
vacant.
