Four SUM officials arrested for fire tragedy

Bhubaneswar, Oct 18: The
Commissionerate Police on Tuesday evening arrested four Institute of Medical
Sciences and SUM Hospital officials, including its superintendent on the charges
of negligence in conduct and safety that caused of the major fire in the
hospital on Monday evening killing 20 persons.
The Khandagiri Police arrested hospital
superintendent Pusparaj Samantasinghar, ex-Executive Engineer Amulya Kumar Sahu
(electrical maintenance), Fire Safety Officer Santosh Das and retired Junior
Engineer Malay Kumar Sahu (electrical maintenance).
Their arrest on charges of criminal
negligence, including culpable homicide, culpable homicide not amounting to
murder, and negligence with regard to fire safety, is based on an FIR filed by
Fire Services Department, said Commissioner of Police YB Khurania.

They all were booked under Sections
304, 308, 285 and 34 IPC.
