MCL announces hike in R&R compensation

Bhubaneswar, Nov 5: The Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), a
flagship subsidiary of Coal India Limited, has increased the amount of cash
compensation in lieu of employment from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 16 lakh to the land
oustees, as against Odisha Government’s Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R)
policy of providing maximum cash compensation of Rs 8.5 lakh since April 1,
2014.
For the benefit of project affected family, who do not wish
to avail employment, MCL had doubled maximum compensation in lieu of employment
to Rs 10 lakh on May 12, 2011, which has further been enhanced to Rs 16 lakh
with effective from November 1, 2016.
Further, the company has double the rate of one time cash
compensation in lieu plot at resettlement site from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.
With this increase in compensation package, the company has
offered the land oustees with great financial lee-way to select the plot and
shift to their place of choice.
For 20 or more families of project affected people shifting
to a common place, MCL also develops infrastructural like, road, drinking
water, electricity, drainage and boundary wall.
