Bhubaneswar, Aug 7: Maintaining that weavers are the sole masters of
Odisha’s exquisite handloom heritage, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday urged
people especially the youth to do their bit for promoting State’s unique
handloom and supporting our weavers.
“Their (weavers) dexterity in weaves has helped create a
distinct identity of Odisha handlooms and spread its tapestry across the globe.
By wearing handlooms more and more and using such products in our everyday
lives, we will do yeoman’s service to Odisha’s heritage,” said Patnaik in his
Facebook page on occasion of National Handloom Day.
They are the sole masters of our exquisite handloom heritage,
said Patnaik.
“Today our ikkat and silk weaves are well-known world over
and our weavers are keeping the ancient traditions alive by their hard work. My
Government is committed to ensure well-being of the weaver communities. We have
launched various programmes for facilitating their craft through skills
training, raw material provisioning as well as social security by providing
houses, education and pension,” added Patnaik.
“Together we can drive prosperity of our weavers and preserve
our rich traditions for all times to come,” appealed Patnaik.
