Drought looms large in wake of scanty rain

October 12, 2017: Drought situation looms large as 98 blocks in the State have
received low rainfall. Situation in three districts-Bolangir, Nuapada and
Bargarh is grim as these western Odisha districts witnessed the lowest shower
this season.
Chief Secretary
Aditya Prasad Padhi took stock of the situation in a review meeting here at the
State Secretariat and asked district collectors to submit detail report by October
22.
After
analysing the reports, the Government may take a final call on declaring
drought by October 31.
“As many as
98 blocks have received scanty rainfall and Bolangir, Nuapada and Bargarh
districts are the worst affected. Collectors have been asked to submit report
by October 22,” said Padhi after emerging from the meeting.
The Chief
Secretary directed the officials to ensure immediate functioning of the newly
set up lift irrigation points in Bolangir, Nuapada and Bargarh districts.
Special
Relief Commissioner Bishnupada Sethi, Development Commissioner R Balkrishnan
and Panchayati Raj Department Secretary Deo Ranjan Singh attended the meeting.
