Deep depression: Odisha on alert for heavy rain

Sethi on Friday wrote to the district Collectors and concerned departments to
keep close watch over the situation in view of the heavy rainfall forecast by India
Meteorological Department (IMD).
He has asked them to instruct the field functionaries to
remain present at their respective headquarters, respond to the emergency
situation and promptly report to the state emergency operation centre if there
is any adverse situation.
As per latest information received from IMD, under the
influence of present deep depression over central Bay of Bengal, rain or
thundershower is likely to occur at most places in the coastal and many places
in the interior districts of Odisha during next 48 hours.
Heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in the
districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur,
Kendrapada, Cuttack, Malkangiri and Koraput during next 48 hours.
“As per the latest
information received from the IMD, under the influence of the present deep
depression over the central Bay of Bengal, rain or thundershower is likely to
occur at most places in the coastal and many places in the interior districts
of the State in next 48 hours.  Keeping
this in view, the district administrations are directed to keep close watch
over the situation,” said the SRC in a letter to all the Collectors.
“Field functionaries may be instructed to remain present at
their respective headquarters and respond to emergency situations if any and
promptly report the matter to the State emergency operation centre in the
office of the SRC,” it added.
Meanwhile, rain continued to lash in many parts of Odisha disrupting
normal life.
