Change in portfolios of key Ministers: Odisha CM vacates Water Resources, Works; retains Home

Bhubaneswar, March 3, 2018: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on
Saturday effected changes in the portfolios of some Ministers. Patnaik, who held
Water Resources and Works portfolios since along gave away the same to Niranjan
Pujari and Prafulla Mallick, respectively.
However, the Chief Minister has retained the Home Department
which he is holding since he became the Chief Minister in 2000 for the first. 
While Niranjan Pujari has been given charge of Water
Resources Department along with his original Housing and Urban Development
Department, Prafulla Mallick entrusted with Works Department, in addition to his
original Steel and Mines Department.
Pratap Jena has been given the responsibility of Information
and Public Relations (I&PR) Department along with his original assignment
of Health and Family Welfare and Law Department.
Sushant Singh, who was credited for making the BJD victory in
the much-hyped Bijepur Assembly by-election has been given the additional
charge of Energy Department along with his original Labour and ESI Department
while Anant Das has been given the responsibility of Industries Department along
with his original Higher Education Department.
The changes in the portfolio and giving additional charge to
selected persons assume significance, particularly ahead of the general
elections scheduled in 2019.

I am sure they will discharge their responsibilities ably and enhance
administration with their verve and leadership to serve the people by ensuring
fast-paced development,” said Patnaik.
