Bhubaneswar, May 23, 2018: Nearly 8000 people of seven
villages in Balasore district have benefitted in a big way. Thanks to the
Odisha Government that has constructed a bridge over Chitei Nallah under Biju
Setu Yojana.

The 44.48 meter bridge was built near Nilpura village on
Baharda Bhuatentuli and Nilpura road at a cost of Rs 254.08 lakh.
The bridge gave a new breath of life to the villagers of
Kusuda, Chakagujadiha, Gujadiha, Gobgaon, Chirkula, Barbatia and Nilpura under Bhograi
block.
Construction of the new bridge in the area with tidal effect
in nallah all the time was a challenge for the State Government.
In order to facilitate the people with all-weather
connectivity, the Rural Development (#RD) department came out with a solution
by constructing RCC bridge with 5 spans of 8.77 metere each under NABARD
scheme.
The old RCC slab foot-bridge was in a dismal condition and
incapable of controlling flood water or offering smooth vehicular traffic. The
road was often out of use during rains and floods.
Due to flooding of Subarnarekha river, discharge of water
through the nallah was often delayed and the total area use to get submerged.
The livelihood of the local people depends on business,
agricultural farming and fishing in the nearby nallah.
Communication with the block and district headquarters often
got cutoff during rains and floods, causing immense difficulty to the
villagers.
Therefore it was necessary to construct a bridge near Nilpura
on Baharda Bhuatentuli and Nilpura road.
The socio-economic condition of local people has improved
after construction of this bridge, said Pradip Kumar Dutta of Nilpura.
