TATA Group likely to set up Defence Manufacturing Cluster at Naraj

Bhubaneswar, July 17, 2018: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday proposed the TATA Group to set up a Defence Manufacturing Cluster at Naraj during a meeting with TATA Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekharan.

TATA Advanced Systems may consider developing this cluster on the 871 hectares of land at Naraj in possession of TATA power, the CM suggested.

Expressing happiness over the expansion of TATA’s Kalinga Nagar Plant, the Chief Minister proposed the TATAs to consider developing a Steel Downstream Cluster at Kalinga Nagar with provision of liquid metal.

The Chief Minister also put forth several other proposals including an E-Vehicle project by TATA Motors, a manufacturing unit by TATA Chemicals at Paradeep and requested more investments in manufacturing sector at TATA SEZ and DTA area at Gopalpur to generate employment.

The  Chief  Minister  also   proposed   that   the   TATA Industries  may  participate  in the  World  Skill  Centre  project  as an  Industry  partner  to  deliver  world-class   skill  to  the  State’s youth.    He also requested   to step up campus placements   in different Government Engineering   Colleges, ITls and Polytechnics.

He asked Chandrasekharan to speed up the setting up of 500 bedded Super Speciality Hospital at Sitalapalli in Ganjam district.   He urged Chandrasekharan that TATA AIG should expedite the payment of Crop Insurance claims to the farmers of the State.

Chandrasekharan thanked the Chief Minister for his focus on rapid industrialisation and employment generation.  He said that TATA Sons would consider all the proposals of the Chief Minister and try its best to realise the proposed projects.

The Chief Minister suggested Chandrasekharan that TATA Motor along with VOTAS and Thyssenkrupp should consider establish Workshops in some selected Government ITls.

Speaking on the State’s Mission Shakti programme, the CM told the TATAs to promote micro entrepreneurship development programme for women under Mission Shakti.

Among others, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, Development Commissioner R Balkrishnan, ACS Finance, Principal Secretary Industries, Secretary Health and FW and TATA Steel MD and other TATA officials were present.
