First Heritage Cabinet: Odia University to come up at Satyabadi

Bhubaneswar, July 27, 2018: The first Odisha Heritage Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday took key decisions, including setting up of an Odia University for preservation and proliferation of art, culture and classical Odia language.

The Cabinet also approved a proposal for formulation of Odia Culture and Heritage Policy.

The proposed University will be set up at Satyabadi in Puri district. The State Government will provide 25 acres of land for the purpose.

“Decision has been taken by the Heritage Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to set up Odia Language University at Satyabadi
in Puri district,” said Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad padhi after the meeting.

The Cabinet also approved to convert the Ananda Bhawan Museum and Learning Centre at Cuttack into a trust in line with Netaji Museum Trust. The Heritage Cabinet also approved to create a corpus fund for the purpose.

It also approved a proposal for creation of a position of Director, Public Library for smooth functioning of all public libraries in the State.

The constitution of Heritage Cabinet is in continuation of State Government’s push for promotion of Odia language. At the historic Cabinet meeting in Puri on December 26, 2017, the decision was taken to create the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture to drive efforts for preservation and promotion of Odia language.
