30,000 people enrolled under PM-Shram Yogi Mandhan pension scheme in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Dharemndra Pradhan on Tuesday said that 30,000 people have been enrolled under Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Mandhan (PM-SYM) in the State so far.

Pradhan, while attending a function marking the nation-wide launching of the scheme here, said 30,000 people have been enrolled under the scheme so far in Odisha. Out of it the total 30,000 enrolment 24,000 cards have been prepared in the State.

Slamming the State Government for not extending support for implementation of the pension scheme, the Union Minister said out of the 2.5 crore workforce in Odisha nearly two crore people work in unorganized sector as mining and construction worker or daily wage laborers.

“Construction workers, vendors and daily wage laborers will be the most benefited one under the pension scheme. Unfortunately, Odisha Government is not cooperating in its smooth implementation. I urge the State Government officials to pro-actively cooperate in implementation of the scheme,” said Pradhan.

He also distributed PM-SYM pension cards to select beneficiaries.

The national pension scheme for workers and labourers of unorganised sector was announced in the interim budget in February this year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the PM-SYM Yojana at Vastral in Gandhinagar, Gujarat today.

It will provide monthly pension of Rs 3,000 to the employees of unorganised sector after 60 years of age. It will benefit over 42 crore people working in various job roles in unorganised sectors and support them with a monthly pension of Rs 3000 from the age of 60.
