Odisha Politics

Bhubaneswar: The wife and son of Patkura MLA Bed Prakash Agrawal on Tuesday met BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Nivas here.

Bed Prakash aged around 80 has been renominated from Patkura Assembly Constituency, but he hasn’t collected the party ticket yet due to illness. He has been admitted to a city-based private hospital here for last few days.

Sources said the party is now seriously contemplating to give ticket either to the six-time MLA’s wife or son. Bed Prakash is representing the Patkura constituency for last two terms.

However, both the mother-son duo did not divulge anything before media persons what transpired between them and the party supremo.

BJP has fielded senior leader Bijoy Mahapatra as its candidate from Patkura. Mohapatra has represented Patkura four times in the State Assembly.  He had unsuccessfully fought the 2014 poll from Mahakalpada.

Sources said the Bed Prakash Agrawal, wants his son to be given ticket because of his failing health. There are several other instances when sons have been given tickets to placate fathers who have been denied ticket by the BJD supremo due to various reasons.

Now, it has become a challenge for Naveen Patnaik to find out a capable candidate to take on veteran leader Bijoy Mohapatra.
