CM visits Fani-hit Kendrapara, announces 30 cyclone shelters

Kendrapara: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday visited Cyclone Fani-affected Kendrapara district and announced establishment of 30 multipurpose cyclone shelters worth Rs 2 crore each and assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for repair of damaged schools, Anganwadi complexes and public utility assets in gram panchayats.

Patnaik directed district administration to swiftly disburse livelihood relief packages for women SHGs, farmers and fishermen.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to to ensure that not a single needy person is left out and to expedite strengthening of embankments damaged in the cyclone.

Three persons were killed while 1.17 lakh people safely shifted in the district ahead of the cyclone Fani made landfall.

Meanwhile, 100 per cent electricity and water supply restoration has been done.

With nearly 200 kmph wind storms and incessant rains bringing down trees, power and communications lines and thatched houses, cyclone Fani barreled through the eastern coast in Odisha’s Puri district on May 3 leaving at least 64 people dead in different six coastal district.
