International team to assess Health Department damages caused by Cyclone Fani

Bhubaneswar: A delegation comprising members of the World Health Organisation (WHO), World Bank and Unicef held a discussion with Health and Family Welfare Secretary Dr PK Meherda about Cyclone Fani-related losses suffered by the department and step taken in the aftermath of the cyclone.

The international team has been divided into six parts to assess the damages in Fani-affected areas from May 26 to 28 and would make a presentation on the same to the Government on June 3, informed an official release.

Department officials appraised the team about the assessment, steps taken before and after the cyclone like shifting of pregnant women to the health centres, cancellation of leave of the doctors and others.

WHO’s Dr Ritu Singh Chauhan and Dr Abaninidranath Sahu would visit Puri District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), Brahmagiri, Krushnaprasad and Satyabadi blocks and would assess the damage. While WHO’s Dr Gaurav Gupta and Dr Santoha Sahu would visit Khordha DHH, Capital Hospital and City Hospital, Cuttack.

Similarly, UNICEF’s Dr Brajesh Raj Mitra, WHO’s Dr Deepak Kumar Kar and Dr Gyana Chand would visit Jajpur and Bhadrak districts and World Bank’s Dr Suresh Kumar Mohammad and UNICEF’s Deepak Kumar Biswal would visit Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts.
