Assaulting woman scribe: BJP youth wing activists burn CM, BJD MP’s effigies

Cuttack: The members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha on Saturday burnt the effigies of BJD’s Kendrapara MP Anubhav Mohanty and Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik in Cuttack demanding immediate arrest of the MP, his brother and wife for allegedly abusing a woman journalist.

The leaders claimed that though an FIR has been registered against the MP and his kin for allegedly misbehaving with a woman who had sought his intervention in connection with an incident where his brother had reportedly passed lewd remarks at her, but no legal action has been taken against the accused persons.

The protestors also targeted Chief Minister and BJD president Patnaik for maintaining stoic silence over the “unfortunate” incident.

They burnt the effigies of both Patnaik and Mohanty, to register their protest at Gouri Shankar Parka here.

Notably, Purighat police on Friday registered a case against the MP, his wife Barsa Priyadarshini and younger brother Anuprash Mohanty under Sections 354-A (sexual harassment by way of sexually coloured remarks) and 294 (use of obscene words) after the 29-year-old married woman namely Sashmita Acharya lodged a complaint alleging that she was subjected to verbal abuse by Anubhav when she visited his residence at Nandi Sahi, near Choudhury Bazar, to complain against his brother, Anuprash.

In her complaint, Acharya said that Anubhav’s younger brother had been passing lewd comments at her for several days and when she visited the MP’s house here on Wednesday evening to complain about it, Anubhav and his actress wife assaulted her.
