Odisha-born Atanu Kumar Das is new Bank of India MD & CEO

Bhubaneswar: The Centre has appointed Odisha-born Atanu Kumar Das as the new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Bank of India.

Currently Das is serving as the Executive Director of the bank. He has taken charge as the Executive Director on February 17, 2017.

He will serve as the MD and CEO of the bank for a period of three years with effect from the date of assumption of office.

A notification to this effect was issued by the Ministry of Finance on Monday.

“In exercise of powers conferred by the proviso to clause (a) of sub-section (3) of section 9 of the Banking Companies (Acquisition Transfer of Undertakings) Act, 1970, read with sub-paragraph (1) of paragraph 8 of the Nationalised Banks (Management and Mismanagement and Miscellaneous Provisions) Scheme, 1970, Central Government hereby appoints Atanu Kumar Das (DoB:10.06.1963), Executive Director Bank of India as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, bank of India for a period of three years with effect from the date of assumption of office, or until further orders, whichever is earlier” said the notification.

A post graduate in Applied Economics and NET holder from UGC, Das joined the banking industry as economist in 1994, while pursuing a doctoral degree at IIT, Kharagpur.

In his 23 years of banking experience, he has been involved at both policy and operational levels. Prior to assuming charge as Delhi Regional Head in January 2015, he was heading Vijaya Bank’s Lucknow Region for more than three years. While at a Vijaya Bank’s Corporate Office, Das has handled key departments as Planning and Development and also was posted as Executive Secretary to C&MD for more than two years.

He has been part of several important training programmes, workshops conducted at premier institutions like IIM (Kozhikode), IIM (Ahmedabad), ASCI, NIBM, BTC and Frankfurt School of Business Management.
