Revolutionary poet Rabi Singh passes away

Cuttack: Revolutionary poet Rabi Singh passed away on Sunday morning at his residence in Khapuria here after prolonged illness.

He was 89. He was suffering from various old-age related ailments.

Singh had carved out a niche for himself in Odia literature for the striking progressive trend and voicing his thoughts against old values and double standards in his poetry collections.

His poetry collections include Patha Prantara Kabita (the poems of roadside), Charama Patra (the final testament), Sithila Balga (the slack rein), Lal pagoda Ra Preta o Anya Kabita (the spirit of red pagoda and other poems) and, Bhrukuti (frowning glance).

Singh had received the Odiya Sahitya Akademi award in 1961, Sahitya Bharati Samman for 2014 for excellence in Odia literature and Atibadi Jagannath Das Samman in 2017, and many more.
