Raid on Maoists: Biggest ever seizure of arms & ammunitions in Swabhiman Anchal

Bhubaneswar: In one of the biggest ever anti-Maoist operations in the Swabhiman Anchal (Cut-off area) of Malkangiri district, the Odisha police busted a major Maoist hideouts and dumps and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunitions.

The seizures include one INSAAS LMG, three INSAAS rifles, three carbine sten guns and one SLR rifle, said DGP Abhay in a press conference here.

The DGP said that the cache of arms was hidden by the Maoists of Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (ABSZC).

The DGP said that in January an extensive composite operation was launched in the Swabhiman Anchal by the State police. BSF, CoBRA and Andhra Pradesh participated in the drive.

“After this composite operation there was an exchange of fire between a team led by Malkangiri SP comprising of SOG and DVF and Odisha police and Maoists at Goiguda village on January 15 and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunitions. On the basis of specific information recovered from Maoists documents and electronic devices seized post this exchange of fire, SOG and DVF team had launched intense search area domination exercises resulting in uncovering of the major Maoist hideouts and dumps in Swabhiman Anchal and adjoining areas,” said the DGP.

The seizures include three INSAAS rifles, one LMG, three carbine sten guns, one SLR rifle, .303 rifle and pistol each, 5.56 mm ammunition (202 rounds), 7.62 (59 rounds), 9 mm (42 rounds), four LMG magazines, eight INSAS magazines, two SLR magazines, six Carbine Magazines, gun power, cordex wire, two VHF set-cum-scanner, four magazine pouch and tiffin bomb.

It is suspected that these arms and ammunitions could have been looted from the police in the past, added the DGP.
