Market Building violence mastermind arrested

Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Commissionerate Police has Gopinath Nayak, the alleged mastermind in the Market Building violence in which over 30 makeshift shops were damaged and many people sustained injuries.

Nayak was apprehended from Gajpati by a team of policemen of the Capital police station here, said Commissioner of Police Sudhanshu Sarangi in a tweet from his personal handle on Saturday.

Sarangi further said that Nayak had ‘masterminded’ the violence along with notorious criminal Chintu Mohanty on January 10. Chintu has been detained under NSA on Friday.

“Capital PS has today apprehended Gopinath Nayak from Gajpati.Gopi had started the Market Building trouble & with Chintu masterminded it. With this total arrests reaches 32. Our response to any disruption to public order will always be robust & no nonsense,” tweeted Sarangi.

With the fresh arrest, the total arrests in the case now stood at 32. The Commissioner has warned that the response of the police towards any disruption to public order will be always robust and no-nonsense.

It may be mentioned here that on the evening of January 10 at the Unit-II Market Building in heart of the Capital city, a group of around 50-60 masked men had ransacked several shops and attacked shopkeepers leaving several of them injured in the incident.
