40 pilgrims injured after tourist bus catches fire in Ganjam

Ganjam: Around 40 pilgrims suffered injuries, 10 of them critical, after the bus they were travelling in caught fire after coming in contact with 11kv live electric wire in Ganjam district.

The incident took place on Sunday morning at Melupanthara village under Golanthara police station. According to sources, no casualties have been reported in the accident but around 10 passengers have suffered minor injuries.

Initially the injured were rushed to Baliapal hospital and later shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur.

Sources said the tourist bus was on way to the sea beach near Melupanthara, when it touched a dangling 11kv electricity wire around.

On being informed, local police fire service personnel rushed to the spot to take stock of the rescue operation
