CM announces Rs 100 crore employment package for urban poor in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday announced Rs 100 crore ‘Urban Wage Employment Initiative’ to generate employment for the urban poor amidst the ongoing lockdown enforced by the Central Government to effectively contain the spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

The initiative will benefit 4.5 lakh families in 114 urban local bodies (ULBs).

Under the initiative, various labour intensive works will be undertaken in ULBs till September, maintaining social distancing.

The work will be undertaken in collaboration with Mission Shakti and the dues will be credited to beneficiary accounts directly, every week.

Meanwhile, the Government has issued standard operating procedure (SOP) in the Government as well as private construction sites to prevent spreading of Covid-19 and to protect workers and construction personnel from heat wave.
