Covid outbreak: Odisha announces complete shutdown in Balasore, Bhadrak & Jajpur for 60 hours

Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy on Thursday announced complete shutdown for 60-hours from 10 pm of Thursday in Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts as 28 Coronavirus (Covid-19) positive cases have been reported from these districts in last four days.

“As many as 28 Covid-19 positive cases have been reported from the three districts in past five days. The State Government has decided to enforce complete shutdown for 60 hours from 10 pm today to 10 pm of May 26. We have to move to a higher level of preparedness in these districts. During the shutdown period, aggressive tracing and testing will be done,” said Tripathy.

Nobody can come out of house, it will be like curfew, said Tripathy.

“Covid-19 testing will be increased three times in these three districts. Sarpanches have been asked to identify those with recent travel history to West Bengal,” said Tripathy.

“People with recent travel history should voluntarily come up failing which action will be taken against them,” warned the Chief Secretary.

Of the 89 positive cases in the State, 28 cases are linked to West Bengal. Sources said more than 2,700 persons have returned to different parts of Odisha from WB in the last two months and at least a half of them sneaked in between March 28 and 29.
