Reliance Jio adds over 1.87 lakh new subscribers in May: TRAI Data

Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Reliance Jio has added more than 1.87 lakh new mobile subscribers in Odisha in May 2020, as per the latest telecom subscriber data released by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), today.

This achievement of Jio attains higher significance as it comes on the back of Reliance Jio surpassing 50% gross revenue market share in Odisha, as per another financial report published by TRAI earlier this week for the June quarter.

In fact, Odisha has become one of the only two states in the country along with Madhya Pradesh where Reliance Jio has surpassed 50% gross revenue market share, revealed the report. The financial report published by TRAI earlier this week has not included the revenue data of BSNL in the said quarter.

As per the telecom subscriber data released by TRAI for May 2020, Reliance Jio added 1,87,345 new subscribers in Odisha in May, taking its total mobile subscriber base in Odisha to over 1.27 crores. This was followed by BSNL which added 52,329 subscribers during this period. Both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea lost lakhs of subscribers in May 2020, revealed the data released by TRAI. While Airtel lost 2,16,180 subscribers in this period, Vodafone Idea lost 1,12,295 subscribers in this period. Overall mobile subscriber base in Odisha witnessed a decline of 88,801 subscribers in May 2020 and came down to 3.3 crores.

Nationally also Jio further consolidated its leadership in the market, adding over 36 lakh new subscribers taking its total mobile subscribers base to 39.72 crores in the country. Among others BSNL added a mere 2 lakh subscribers while both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea lost over 47 lakhs subscribers each in May2020.

It is worth mentioning here that, Reliance Jio continues to be the most preferred digital service provider in Odisha, adding maximum number of new subscribers every month. After becoming No.1 in Odisha in December 2019, Reliance Jio had added over 7 lakh new subscribers in the first three months of 2020, whereas both Airtel and Vodafone Idea lost nearly six lakh users during the same period.

The rapid and continuous rise in the number of Jio subscribers in the state has been fuelled by its all 4G network, rapid expansion of its 4G network coverage and consistent high-speed internet service across the length and breadth of Odisha.

Jio has also rolled out JioFiber high-speed broadband in key locations of 13 cities in Odisha including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Bolangir, Bhawanipatna, Jajapur Road, Puri, Jharsuguda, Koraput, Angul, Kendrapada and Sundergarh.
