Odisha reports 2,602 new Covid cases; Tally mounts to 1,03,536

Bhubaneswar, August 31: The number of Covid-19 positive cases in Odisha rose to 1,03,536 with addition of 2,602 cases on Monday, said Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department.

Of the 2,602 new cases detected in the last 24 hours, 1,561 were detected from among those staying in quarantine centres and the rest 1,041 found as local contacts. The positive cases were detected from all the 30 districts. The State also recorded 10 deaths due to the virus in the last 24 hours too.

According to the I&PR Department, among the districts, Khurda reported the highest 616 positive cases followed by Cuttack 236, Ganjam 190, Kendrapada 128, Koraput 127, Balasoreand Jajpur 103 each, Nayagarh 91, Keonjhar 86, Jharsuguda 85, Bargarh and Jagatsinghpur 82 each, Malkangiri 80, Sambalpur 78, Mayurbhanj 72, Dhenkanal 67, Kalahandi 63, Rayagada 54, Bhadrak 47, Puri 46, Balangir 42, Sonepur 21, Sundargarh 19, Nawarangpur 18, Kandhamal 17, Nuapada 16, Angul 14, Boudh nine, Gajapati seven and Deogarh three.

The State also witnessed 2,519 recoveries in the last 24 hours and, with this, the number of persons cured of the Covid infection rose to 73,233. While 492 patients have succumbed to the disease so far, the State has 29,758 active cases.

With 57,877 Covid tests conducted during the period, the number of cumulative tests rose to 17,89,433 on Monday.
