All slums will be transformed into model colonies in next 3 years: Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar, September 28: With a vision of slum free cities under Odisha Liveable Habitat Mission (OLHM) or JAGA Mission, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday inaugurated Slum Upgradation Programme to transform at least 2,919 slums in the State.

The programme started from Balasore, the land of Fakir Mohan Senapati. β€œAll slums will be transformed into model colonies in next three years,” said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister said that slum dwellers contribute immensely to development of urban space and their welfare is a priority of the Government.

Patnaik also started distribution of Land Entitlement Certificates 1,05,000 people which will be expanded to 4.5 lakh people in 101 municipalities.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Centre for Policy Research and Housing and State Urban Development Department to support JAGA Mission as Knowledge Partner.

β€˜It will ensure integration of slums into city fabric & development of living space for urban poor,” said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister also dedicated 116 Multi-Purpose Community Centres- PARICHAYA for slum dwellers.
