Odisha Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal on Saturday appointed former Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Ajit Singh as the first Lokayukta of Odisha. Earlier on February 12, a seven-member search committee had unanimously finalised Justice Singh’s name at a meeting presided over by its chairperson and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The office of the Lokayukta, which would conduct investigations into allegations of corruptions, will start functioning from April 8, 2019.

  • Justice Ajit Singh specialised in Constitutional laws, election laws and laws relating to local bodies and Panchayats and Criminal laws.
  • Born on September 6, 1956, Justice Ajit Singh was enrolled as an advocate in 1979.
  • Appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on April 1, 2002 and as a permanent Judge on March 21, 2003.
  • Transferred to the Rajasthan High Court in March, 2015.
  • Practiced on Civil, Criminal and Constitutional sides in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur.
  • Transferred to Rajasthan High Court and took oath as Judge, Rajasthan High Court on March 19, 2015.
  • Appointed as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on March 5, 2016.
  • Retired as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on September 9, 2018.
  • A B.Sc. LL.B degree holder, he practised at the District Court, Jabalpur and High Court of Madhya Pradesh in Civil, Criminal, Constitutional, Service, Election Laws for more than two decades.
