CM visits reclaimed land of Mahanadi, announces Decongestion Plan for Millennium City

Cuttack: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday announced that Odisha Government is preparing a Decongestion Plan for Cuttack, including six-laning of Ring Road plan to enable the 1000-year-old Millennium City to have wider roads, better accessibility, public spaces and utilities, parks, modern urban infrastructure, parking and greenery.

“It will be the State Government’s endeavour to prepare a ‘Decongestion Plan’ for Cuttack so as to enable our beloved millennium city to have wider roads, better accessibility, public spaces and utilities, parks, modern urban infrastructure, parking, greenery etc,” said the Chief Minister after reviewing several projects for the city at the reclaimed land of Mahanadi river at Hadia Patha here.

The Chief Minister said that every inch of the 424-acre reclaimed land will be used to add ecological, recreational, sporting, cultural, aspirational and technological values in the lives of Cuttack people and most of the land will be covered with greenery.

He emphasised that best city planners will be engaged to prepare transformative plans for the Millennium City which will be undertaken with people’s feedback.

The Chief Minister also announced that work for the expansion work of SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) will start in March to transform it into a world-class institution.

The State Government has set a target to complete acquisition of 25 acre land needed for the proposed expansion plan of SCBMCH – at an estimated investment of Rs 1,000 crore – by February 28.

Earlier in November last year, the Chief Minister announced Rs 1,000-crore package for the SCBMCH, promising world-class facility at affordable prices. As per the plan, the bed strength of the hospital will be increased to 3000 from the current 2100.

He appealed to the people of Cuttack to actively cooperate and participate to make this dream a reality.

5T Secretary VK Pandian, Water Resources Secretary Surendra Kumar, Works Secretary Krishan Kumar briefed the Chief Minister about several proposed projects for Cuttack.

Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water and Law Minister Pratap Jena, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain and almost all the MLAs of Cuttack district attended the briefing.
