Bhubaneswar: A day after an Odia youth with travel history to Italy, positive for the Coronavirus aka COVID-19, the Odisha Government on Monday made it compulsory for registration of all people, who have come to Odisha from abroad after March 4, through a web portal and helpline number.

“Anyone who comes to Odisha from abroad has to register themselves mandatorily in the toll free number 104 or the online portal https://covid19.odisha.gov.in. This should be done within 24 hours of their arrival with basic details and phone numbers,” said Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy in a press conference here.

He said that they will be given an incentive of Rs 15,000 for registration and home isolation.

They will be required to be in home quarantine for 14 days to check spread of the virus.

“Their location will be tracked during their home isolation and mandated number of calls will be made every day to keep a close watch and give appropriate medical guidance. However, to trace and track persons who have already entered the State on or after March 4, a 48-hour period starting 6 am on Tuesday to 6 am on March 19 is allowed to register themselves,” said Tripathy.

Any deviation in this regard would be dealt with provisions of CrPC, warned the Chief Secretary.

“Steps are taken keeping in mind the arrival of Odia students, professionals from other affected countries,” said Tripathy, adding that Odisha is the first State in the country to have make such a regulation to combat the COVID-19.

The development came after a 33-year-old youth with travel history to Italy was tested positive for the virus on Sunday night in Bhubaneswar.
