Cyclone Fani: Landfall process begins with Puri recording wind speed of 175 kmph

Bhubaneswar: The landfall process of cyclonic storm Fani has already begun in the coastal areas with Puri recording wind speed of 175 kmph and is expected to make landfall anytime soon, informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishupada Sethi today here.

As per the IMD communiqué, highest 15 cm rainfall was reported in Gopalpur followed by Puri-10 cm, Bhubneshwar-5 cm, Paradeep, Chandbali, Balasore- three cm each.

About a million people have been evacuated in the last 24 hours from vulnerable districts, including three lakh people in Ganjam and 1.3 lakh in Puri district. About 5000 kitchens started operating to serve people in the shelters in different parts of the State.
