Bhubaneswar: Former MLA Anup Sai, who was earlier detained by Chhattisgarh police in connection with a double murder case since Wednesday night, was arrested on Thursday, informed Raigarh SP Santosh Kumar Singh.

The former lawmaker was picked up by police personnel of Chhattisgarh’s Chakradhar Nagar Police on Wednesday night from his residence in Jharsuguda for interrogation in connection with the murder of Kalpana Das (32) and her daughter Pravati Das (14) in April 2016.

The three-time MLA was accused of being involved in the murder of the mother-daughter duo and threw the bodies in the border area of Jharsuguda and Chhattisgarh to give it a shape of accident.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik expelled Sai from BJD and also removed him from the chairmanship of Odisha State Warehousing Corporation after the news of his detention by police broke.

Sai was elected from the Brajarajnagar constituency thrice on Congress ticket. He later joined the BJD in 2014. He was appointed as the Chairman of the Odisha Warehousing Corporation in August last year after he unsuccessfully contested from Brajarajnagar.
