Bhubaneswar: Governor Prof Ganeshi Lal, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday greeted people on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami and Dussehra.

In a message on social media, the Governor said, “Dussehra festival is a celebration of the triumph of truth over untruth, evil and injustice. Everybody should work to establish truth and peace not only in his life but also in the society.”

The Chief Minister tweeted, “Warm greetings to all on Dussehra. May this celebration of victory of good over evil lead us all on path of truth and justice.”

“Vijaya Dashami is a celebration of the eternal victory of good over evil! May Goddess Durga shower her blessings on us and remove all obstacles from our lives. Wishing everyone a very happy, prosperous and blissful #Dussehra and Vijaya Dashami,” tweeted Union Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel Minister Pradhan, who hails from Odisha.

Dussehra is being celebrated on Tuesday. Immersion of idols will be conducted on Wednesday in most parts of State, including Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

Dussehra is celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Ashwina (September–October), the seventh month of the Hindu Calendar, with the appearance of the full moon, an event called the “bright fortnight” (Shukla paksha). Dussehra marks the triumph of Lord Ram over the 10- headed demon king Rabana, who abducted Rama’s wife Sita.
