“Humiliated” Salipur MLA Prakash Behera quits Congress

Odisha Politics

Bhubaneswar: A day after Congress president Rahul Gandhi blew election trumpet for the ensuing Lok Sabha and Assembly election in Odisha’s Bargarh district, Salipur MLA Prakash Behera on Saturday resigned from the primary membership of Congress accusing the State party leadership of humiliating him ‘time and again’.

Behera is most likely to join the BJP.

Behera was the four Congress MLAs after Naba Das (Jharsuguda), Jogesh Singh (Sundergarh) and Krishna Chandra Sagaria (Koraput) who has so far fallen foul of the party. Behera sent his resignation letter to AICC president Rahul Gandhi.

“After being removed as DCC president of Cuttack district humiliated by the leadership time and again. In spite of my appeal to the PCC president my grievance was not considered duly by the PCC. I was all along having working for the Congress party since last 20 years. The Congress party has neglected me,” Behera said in his resignation letter.

Name Behera of deserting Congress was doing the rounds for quite some time. Speculations were rife that the MLA might join the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) as he had praised BJD’s performance publicly.

However, the MLA changed his decision after BJD veteran and Minister Pratap Jena recently in a BJD workers’ meeting in Salipur area cleared the air by stating that Prashant Behera would be party’s candidate from Salipur Assembly constituency.
