In a first for Odisha, BeMC forms Federation of Urban Self-Help Groups

Berhampur, October 10, 2018: Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) has formed Federation of Urban Self-Help Groups (SHGs) becoming the first city in the State to introduce such an initiative for the socio-economic development of the urban poor.

On Wednesday an awareness programme was organized by BeMC for enhancing cesspool vehicle services in collaboration with City Livelihood Centre (CLC) of BeMC on Faecal Sludge and Septage Management.

On the occasion, BeMC Commissioner Chakravarti Singh Rathore inaugurated the Cluster Level Federation (CLF) which constituted 1,800 SHGs. Around 200 representatives from Area Level Federations participated in the campaign.

The Commissioner said that the CLF office will function from the CLC building initially.

“CLC will be the platform for marketing and exhibition of SHGs products. A MoU was signed with a company for cesspool vehicle services which will be coordinate by the CLC,” said Commissioner Rathore.

“The SHGs federation is the first and largest member SHGs in the state. This can be replicated in other cities in the State,” said BeMC Deputy Commissioner Sourendra Routray.

Among others, Slum Improvement Officer Ipsita Priyadarshini Mishra, Geetanjali Samantaray, CLC Manager Rajeev Lochan Rathan, NULM Manager Rajib Mishra, EY Coordinator, UMC Coordinator and all Community Officer of BeMC were present at the programme.

The programme ended with a rally focusing on clean Berhampur city.
