INTACH holds seminar on potential world heritage sites in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: INTACH Odisha on Wednesday held a one day
seminar on ‘The Potential World Heritage Sites in Odisha’ at the Mahabodhi
Society of India Hall. 
 

Speaking on the occasion, State Convener of INTACH,  A.B. Tripathy spoke of the potential sites in
Odisha which could and should be included in the World Heritage List. He
lamented the fact the Bhubaneswar as a city has lost the advantage of being in
the list due to the wanton and random destruction of valuable heritage
structures. 
Dr. Sitakant Mahapatra reiterated that the State has a
crying need for development of the infrastructure for tourism growth. He spoke
of the rich heritage, both tangible and intangible. Dr. Chandrasekhar Kar gave
a scintillating presentation on Bhitarkanika: Retrospect and Prospect”.
Bhitarkanika had been designated to be nominated as a UNESCO World heritage
site. The rich and diverse flora and fauna make this wetland a unique site in
the world.
Dr. Jeevan Kumar Patnaik gave a presentation on the excavations
in the Buddhist Quadrangle of Ratnagiri, Lalitagiri and Udayagiri. He spoke of
the immense archaeological wealth that still remains undiscovered. Dr Sunil
Patnaik also spoke.
