Mock drill demonstrates disaster management skills

Bhubaneswar:
The Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch organised a mock drill by
trained Certified First Medical Responder (CFMR) volunteers at Red Cross Bhavan
here to capture the practical knowledge on the very specific CFMR training.
More than 100 volunteers including NDRT/ SDRT/DDRT members/ Youth Red Cross/
Junior Red Cross Counsellors / Red Cross members and volunteers from different
districts participated in the drill.
Revenue
and Disaster Management Minister Surya Narayan Patro inaugurated the demonstration
and highlighted about the construction of 23 Multipurpose Cyclone Shelters by
Red Cross in coastal districts which could save 48,000 lives in 1999 Super
Cyclone. He said that First Aid in right time can save the life of the casualty.
NDRF
Assistant Commandant at Munduli BK Das graced the programme and appreciated the
drill performed by the Red Cross volunteers. He particularly highlighted the
sequences followed by volunteers during providing First Aid services to the casualty
through the drill.
Volunteers
demonstrated different First Aid techniques on road accident, snake bite, safe
handling and transporting of the casualty, psychological support, TRIAGE in
emergency, CPR, wounds and bleeding, bandage, position, shock and its
management.

Among
others, Odisha branch Red Cross society secretary Dr Mangala Prasad Mohanty, trainer
Dr Bikash K. Prasad, Dr Jasobanta Narayan Jena and AR Khan facilitated the drill.
