Bhubaneswar,
August 24, 2017: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday hailed the Supreme
Court’s land mark verdict on Right to Privacy.
Earlier on
Thursday, in a landmark decision that will affect the lives of all Indians, a
nine-judge Constitution bench of the apex court unanimously declared that right
to privacy was a Fundamental Right under the Constitution.
 “Welcome Hon’ble #SupremeCourt upholding
#RightToPrivacy as Fundamental Right. A huge step for upholding individual
freedom & civil liberty,” Patnaik tweeted hours after the landmark decision
by the apex court.
A nine-judge
Constitution bench, headed by Chief Justice J S Khehar, heard a marathon
arguments for six days over a period of three weeks in July and finally on Thursday
ruled that the right to privacy is a Fundamental Right and is an integral part
of the right to life and liberty.

The judgment
of the apex court would have a bearing on the challenge to the validity of the much-talked
Aadhaar scheme.
