Odisha Govt suspends inter-State bus services as Coronavirus cases rise

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has suspended inter-State bus services until further orders to check the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the State.

In a letter to all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs), Transport Commissioner-cum-State Transport Authority Chairman said, “Novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has become pandemic and the whole world is affected by the deadly virus. There is no specific treatment or vaccine till now for COVID-19 and only precaution of the highest degree is required to decelerate the spread of COVID-19.”

Hence, it is ordered to suspend all inter-State bus services. Inter-State buses coming from other States will not be allowed to reach their destination in Odisha after 11 am on March 23 (Monday), it said.

Similarly, no inter-State bus will be allowed to operate to other States from Odisha after 11 am on Monday. The Inter-State bus operation to and from Odisha will remain suspended till further orders, it added.

So far the State has reported two confirmed cases of Coronavirus after two youths with travel history to Italy and UK tested positive for the virus.
