Odisha’s economy set to grow at 8.35% in 2018-19 ahead of national average of 7.2%

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s economy set to grow at 8.35 per cent in 2018-19, much ahead of the national average of 7.2 per cent. It has registered 8% growth rate for last six years, compared to the national average of 7.1 per cent.

This was revealed by Finance Minister Sashi Bhusan Behera in the Assembly during his interim budget speech on Thursday.

Behera said the economy is expected to grow in range of 8-8.5 per cent during 2019-20 fiscal.

Odisha has registered sharpest decline in poverty levels in the country, lifting nearly eight million out of poverty and is only state to double farmers’ income in last decade. State Government is all set to reach its target of irrigating 10 lakh hectares of arable land, said Behera.
