Parbati Ghose: The Legendary First Lady Of Odia Moviedom

She might have exited the world-stage, but she is still performing on the memory-screen of her innumerable fans she had won in her phenomenal career that spans over several decades. An actor, producer and director rolled  into one is Parbati Ghose who had ignited a cultural revolution by venturing into male-dominated turf of Odia film industry when acting career  by women invited social stigma.

One year has passed since God took her to his fold on February 12, 2018, but the abode she has built in the heart of the moviegoers by her grace, innocent looks and vocabulary of acting is holding her back endearingly and go on holding her forever.

Acknowledged as the greatest actress ever dazzling the screen, Parbati has left her indellible imprint in the films like Mamata, Hindi movie Do Ansun, Amari Ghar Jhia, Bhai Bhai, Maa, Kaa, Laxmi, Stree, Sansar, and Hindi Tele-film Prashna and Sopan.

For her outstanding performance in Kaa and Stree she has been conferred National Awards twice.

Before debuting as a child-artist in Odia movie Shreejagannath in 1950, Mrs Ghose had been acting in school plays that brought her closer to many national leaders and reformers like Jayprakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia, Malati Devi Chodhury, Surendranath  Choudhury and Nabakrushna Choudhury who found a genius in her to carry their legacy of social change they were striving to bring.

Indeed, she has become an icon for other women artists to emulate and has shown the women community how to work in a male-dominated world with honour and integrity. Married to her co-star, an equally talented artist, Gour Gopal Ghose, she has made history with her directorial debut of Odia classic by Fakir Mohan, Chhamaan Athagunth that has also brought her National Award.

The majestic place that she has carved in the annals of Odia film will ever be a pilgrimage site for movie buffs and inspiring the aspirants for all time to come.
