RO officially notifies adjournment of Patkura Assembly election

Kendrapara: The Kendrapara Sub-Collector-cum-Returning Officer (RO) on Sunday officially notified adjournment of Patkura Assembly election on April 29 following the death of BJD candidate Bed Prakash Agrawalla.

Returning Officer Sanjay Kumar Mishra adjourned to the Patkura assembly segment scheduled for the fourth-phase on April 29 under Section 52 of Representation of People Act, 1951, till the date of notification for elections by Election Commission of India.

Agarwalla passed away on Saturday while undergoing treatment at a private hospital here. He was 82. He had been ailing for past a few months and admitted to a private hospital here.

Agarwalla, who was the sitting legislator of Patkura, got a ticket despite being in and out of hospitals. He was first elected to the assembly from the Kendrapada seat as an Utkal Congress candidate in 1974. He was elected again from the seat in 1977, 1990 and 2000. Agarwalla has represented Patkura since 2009.
