Spurious liquor claims four lives in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: At least four people died allegedly after drinking spurious liquor at in two villages in Tihidi area in Bhadrak district late on Monday night. Liquor sale was banned since Saturday evening in Bhadrak in view of elections on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Sadhu Charan Nayak of Nimaisahi, Sarbeswar Das and Rama Chandra Padhiari of Doulatpur village and Shankarshan Parida. The toll is likely to rise.

The victims had consumed the spurious liquor on Sunday night near Pira Hata area and later several of them fell ill. While one of them reportedly died in the village, three others died while undergoing treatment at Bhadrak hospital. Tension ran high in the area as locals blocked the Bhadrak-Chandabali road at Pirahaat.  Due to the road blockade, vehicular movement has been disrupted severely. Meanwhile, the Bhadrak district Collector has ordered a thorough probe into the incident.

While 12 others have been admitted to Bhadrak hospital, three critically ill have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
