Tata Trusts to set up state-of-the-art Cancer Treatment and Research Hospital in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, May 6, 2018: The Odisha Government on Sunday entered
into a historic partnership with Tata Trusts for launching Odisha Comprehensive
Cancer Care Programme, with an aim to provide best quality cancer care to the
suffering people of the State. 
Odisha Comprehensive Cancer Care Programme is a landmark
initiative to bring advanced cancer care to people’s doorsteps.
As per the MoU, Tata Trusts will set up state-of-the-art
Cancer Treatment and Research Hospital at Bhubaneswar on the lines of Tata
Memorial Hospital, Mumbai and Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre will be
upgraded as apex comprehensive cancer care centre.
The was MoU signed between Health and Family Welfare
Department and Tata Trusts in presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Tata
Trusts Chairman Ratan Tata and Lord Norman Foster, President of Lord Norman
Foster Foundation to Odisha, to deliver high quality and affordable cancer care
through a three-tier model and developing academic and research capabilities in
Odisha.
New apex comprehensive cancer care hospital will be setup in
Bhubaneswar by Tata Trusts.
As per the MoU, Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre,
Cuttack will be upgraded as apex comprehensive cancer care hospital to handle
complex cases on referral basis and free chemotherapy in all 30 districts of
the State. A sum of Rs 800 crore has been earmarked for
executing and grounding of cancer care projects for next five years, of which State
Government’s share will be of Rs 500 crore.
Meanwhile, the Odisha Government has upgraded infra in
Medical Colleges and District Hospitals with provisions for free chemotherapy
in all 30 districts of the State and initiatives for early screening and
detection of cancer.
Now, selected medical colleges will be strengthened for diagnostics
and treatment of cancer while all district hospitals will be equipped to offer
diagnostics and standardized day care chemotherapy with select district
hospitals additionally offering radiotherapy.
Chief Minister Patnaik stated that Tata Trusts, in
partnership with Odisha Government and with their diverse group of cancer care
professionals and infrastructure will be able to deliver on medical infra
needed for the programme in the State.
