Bhubaneswar: Following the passing of
Lokpal Bill in Parliament after a prolonged debate recently, India Against
Corruption (IAC), Odisha chapter demanded that the State Government should
convene a special session of the Assembly immediately and pass a strong
Lokayukta Bill at the earliest.

“The
BJD Government had promised to pass a strong Lokayukta Bill within 3 months
when a discussion was taking place in Lok Sabha in 2011, but till date no development
in this regard is experienced,” said IAC Odisha chapter volunteer Malay
Tripathy.
Tripathy
said the leader of BJD party in Lok Sabha Bhartruhari Mahatab had declared in
Parliament on Dec 27, 2011 that his party will bring a
strong Lokayukta Bill in Odisha Assembly within the next 3 months when the
budget session of the Assembly was convened.
But
to the utter surprise, Mahatab recently gave a statement that the State
Government had promised to pass a strong Lokayukta Bill in Odisha within three
months after it is passed in Parliament, rued Tripathy.
We
condemn such misleading statement and urged the Government to ensure passing of
Lokayukta Bill soon, added Tripathy.
Tripathy
stated that Uttarkhand Government is now contemplating to convene a special
session of the Assembly to pass a modified Lokayukta bill soon.
