‘Freshwater aquaculture has tremendous potential’

Bhubaneswar: Pre-commercialization awareness
workshop was organized by Business Planning and Development (BPD) Unit of
Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) here.

Seven
technologies developed by CIFA were showcased to the prospective
entrepreneurs/companies.
The
open forum provided the companies, successful entrepreneurs and emerging
entrepreneurs to freely interact with the inventor scientists and research
products.
Attending
the event as chief guest Dr H N Atibudhi, head of Agribusiness management,
OUAT, expressed his concern on the reduction of total agricultural produce over
the years.
Freshwater
aquaculture has tremendous potential to meet the protein demand of the
consumers’ plate with a low cost and easy to cultivate practices with modern technology.
Two
MoUs were signed on the occasion with Aisharya Aquaculture Private Ltd.,
Naihati, West Bengal and Poonam Fisheries, Chhattisgarh on the products
of CIFA BROOD and Aqua-School respectively by the Business Planning and
Development Unit of CIFA.
These
MoUs would facilitate production and operation of both the companies with a
handholding support from BPD Unit of CIFA.
Dr.
P. Jayasankar, Director of CIFA and Project Leader of BPD appraised the
entrepreneurs about several technologies of CIFA which could be used by the
companies and entrepreneurs for aquaculture development.
He
assured that the institute would partner with them in commercial production and
utilization, so that they gain absolute confidence to apply the technology for
income.
Dr.
P. Swain, Member Secretary, ITMU informed that the technologies presented in
the workshop were patented products and would not create any commercial
hindrance in the future for the owning companies.
More
than 55 members from companies producing plastic items, bio-chemical items from
Odisha and other states participated the event.
